Welcome to a window into our world.
We have been fortunate enought to have enjoyed and been challenged by the faith, education, wildlife, work, culture and people we have encountered in the various places around the world that we have lived in. These experiences have moulded our thinking and lifestyle.

Prayers are appreciated.

There is an old saying, so I m told,  that trouble comes in three’s.
Well recently our van (people carrier) died. First the transmission and then the engine had major issues that we could not get fixed. However, we were able to donate the van to a local radio car donation program that may be able to fix the issues. A little while later I put my jacket in the laundry not realizing that my little nano iPod was in the pocket and the water did not help its lifespan. Three troubles!!!!

However, in the midst of these issues we have moved into a lovely little rental house  that will be a real home for us. We can now all be in the kitchen at the same time. Also we managed the move without our little van, although we did realize how useful it used to be. Praise God for a friend with a pickup.
A major plus is that the house is on a street corner, faces east, gets the early morning sun and is part of a wonderful community called Atherton Homes.

So I don’t think trouble comes in three’s, although it can have a significant impact as described in my last paragraph below. I think it just mixes in with all the other highs and lows of our various activities. such as:

Josh is settling well in London and he has been able to get a job, actually he has two. One of them is with a catering company that caters to such clients as the Houses of Parliament. Quite recently he worked at the London Film festival and will soon be part of the team working at an event in Wembley stadium. Praise God for the jobs, but also pray they don’t interfere with his studies which are challenging but also enjoyable. God has been so present in Josh’s transition into the UK. Its truly been miraculous.
He was recently battling a chest infection. Pray that he is not affected by his reclamation to the British air.

Linsey is struggling on with her studies and would appreciate your prayers for perseverance. She and Charys are currently battling colds and they both have significant school work. Twice a week Charys has to leave the house at 6.am in the morning to make her first class. Linsey does not finish sometimes till late in the evening. However, both are really happy with our new accommodation. We all love it, especially as it is more like a home and a place that we can be based out of for the rest of our time in the US.

Ben is continuing his work in Malibu, enjoying his music and being a youth worker at his local church. The bands EP will now be released in Jan and they are making some last minute changes. Pray for his visa. The church is working on extending it and needs favor.

Oasis USA has some great opportunities but also many challenges. Please pray that our work in the US would be able to strengthen as there is quite a bit of interest in the TFC idea from others around the globe. The TFC movement has been bubbling along for a while but needs to get more traction and church support in the US. Also Oasis USA would love to be able to raise money for a safe house in Zimbabwe and a coffee shop business in Belgium that will help train girls escaping from human trafficking.
Please also pray for wisdom, as there are opportunities for Oasis to expand its work into the Northeast and onto the east coast in the US.

Pray that we can settle quickly into our new home. You know the chaos that can ensue when you move. We need to quickly set up regular routines as our workloads just continue to pile up and its easier to meet the challenges and find a place of rest when we have stable rhythms in our lives.

I for one definitely need that rhythm.I would appreciate prayer that I keep healthy. So many coughs and sneezes going on around me. I would also appreciate prayer for follow through. There are many items just hanging there that need to come to some sort of conclusion rather than just peter out. LA is a great place for raising ideas but not a great place for following through, as its easy for things to just seem to fizzle out. Which is no good for “man nor beast”. Especially when trying to build resources and support for vulnerable people.

So! I do not think troubles come in three’s but I do know that they can have a significant impact into daily life. I would like to finish by asking you to pray for a close friend and family. Over the next several weeks this person is going through radiation and chemotherapy. May the family know the counsel and healing of God and may we and thier wider community be able to support and care for them well.

At New City Church (http://newcitychurchla.com) in Los Angeles this morning, Kevin Haah the lead pastor was teaching on God at Work.
The following short video shows how Oasis UK is interconnecting work and faith. It is a great illustration for one of the point's that Kevin was highlighting. You can check out Kevin's sermons at the web site mentioned above.

A Big Thank You

The following gives an overview of how local people are engaging in the fight against slavery through TraffickFree Communities.
The communities have grown and Oasis is currently in partnership with several around the USA. They are all reaching out to their local cities through a multitude of believers in a locally sensitive manner,

  • Have supported local police forces with FREEDOM BAGS that are given to girls in the immediate aftermath of a rescue.
  • Have provided volunteers for mentoring life skills to young women who need help and support as they reintegrate back into community life. Several women have found that the grace and love found in the way of Jesus Christ has helped them find holistic freedom.
  •  Are advocating for those enslaved by lobbying local city governments about the human trafficking situation in their area.
  • Have helped develop law enforcement training for local Police departments.
  • Are teaching teenagers vulnerable to traffiking ways on how to protect themselves and their friends.
  • Are helping churches to practically support, pray for and strengthen the vulnerable and enslaved in their communities.
  • Have partnered with organizations such as FairTrade towns to develop a business culture of justice and integrity.
  • Have practically supported victims of human trafficking in finding places of safety
  • Are working to develop communities that are places of reintegration and support
  • Have joined together and prayed for a young trafficked girl and seen her found and rescued four days later.
  • Have supported the global work of fighting trafficking and been part of the network that has helped hundreds of woman and children be rescued for abuse and slavery. Recently the Oasis team in India rescued over 81 women and children

Please be encouraged, YOUR support was an integral part of the team that helped these activities, and the ripples that result from them, happen.
As Aristotle said “the whole is more than the sum of the parts”. Working together we have enabled people to taste and see how good God is.

We are called to use our resources and gifts for the purpose of building present day communities and and elevating the dire needs within our connected sphere of influence. Sadly society has been brainwashed by the various global PR campaigns into thinking wealth is to be held for the future unknowns or for personal gratification. I would love to see a graph of this kind that represented the wealth index during the feudal times in Britain and Europe. I wonder if they would be similar?

Since that last posting in Feb a lot has happened. The most significant event was that my father-in-law, Bill Young, passed away in early March.  it's good to remember  such a quality person and the following are some comments about him that I expressed at his Funeral.

Some people write their words on paper and in books.
Bill young wrote his words into my life and into the lives of the many people who he came into contact with during his various global travels.
Bill mentored many people, myself included.
He and rosemary have supported and strengthened many people,
And they have become parents and surrogate parents to many people.
All of whom have been enriched by their interaction with them.

When Bill and I first met,
He couldn’t understand a word that I said, due to my strong welsh accent.
He didn’t fudge the issue, but told me straight out what the situation was so we could rectify it.
That’s what he was like, he told you straight what the issue was as he saw it.

I leant to listen and respect his words
All those who had contact with Bill learnt to listen and respect him. There was deep insight and wisdom interwoven into what he said.
The impact that he had, and will continue to have, ripples around the world, through the people and the various organizations he has been involved with and able to impact.

He was part of the first board, of Oasis USA and helped them build the structure that has facilitated in the rescue of many women and children from slavery.
He and Rosemary helped many organizations, Timberline, Horizons and others who today releasing the reality of Gods love and grace locally, nationally and Globally.

However, as with most Father-in-laws and Sons-in-laws, we didn’t always agree on everything but there was a deep love and respect in our relationship.
We could press back and he would listen and help us form our thoughts.
He would enable us to grow and pressed us to be people of integrity.
He also encouraged us to be open witnesses for the Gospel and for the ways of Jesus.

Jesus said - “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Math 7:21

Bill Young did the will of the Father…

When Jesus departed the earth he encouraged his disciples that they would do more than he did.
All of us who have been mentored by Bill, either directly or indirectly, know that he is still encouraging us to expand the gospel of the kingdom and to be people of integrity.
We move into the future with Bills encouragement and his legacy to be ambassadors of Christ impacting our area of influence for the sake of the kingdom.
Just like he always did.

Bill Young was a statesman for the kingdom; a hero of the faith and one who lived his life well.

Updates and links

As we are now well into this New Year we wanted to update you on the family, hopefully encourage you as to the current state of play and also highlight some issues that we would love to get your prayers over.

Linsey was recently in Colorado helping her parents and her sisters.  Her Mum fell over and broke her knee a couple of weeks ago and her Dad has very significant issues with his legs due to neuropathy. Both issue are extremely painful, debilitating and frustrating for them both.  Please pray for Bill, Rosemary and the family

Ben is coming to the end of his initial stint of studies at the Musicians Institute and will then be undertaking a year of job training which will, hopefully, entail recording an EP and an album with CiRCLESIGHT. Follow the link and like them on Facebook www.facebook.com/circlesight?fref=tsp. He and the band have recently moved from their band house, but were able to find a place in the same town and from which they can hear the waves. He gets no sympathy from us. Fortunately, it’s also close to the last bus stop on his route to college and as the bus drivers know him they will wait as he comes down the road or wake him if he’s sleeping on the way home.

Josh has applied to colleges in the US and the UK. Pray that one would offer him a place. He has recently obtained his motor bike permit and is currently holding down at least three jobs - writer, climbing instructor and ballroom dance Instructor (trainee). He’s enjoying and excelling in them all and has become very fit.  One of his aims in all this is to afford a motorbike. You can see a video featuring his climbing gym at:-

Charys is eclectically creating songs & scripts as well as fashionable outfits out of old clothes . She is doing really well in school and is currently in the early stages of rehearsals for her school end of year production. However, as her parents we are getting a bit freaked out as Charys is now receiving invitations from colleges across the States who are trying to entice her to enroll with them. Plus, she is now at the age, in America at least, where she can legally learn to drive and obtain a learner permit. If Kevin had hair it would turn grey, Oh wait! it already has…

Kevin has been encouraged by Oasis USA having a stronger 2012. The work grew, as did the support for victims of trafficking and the organizational capacity of Oasis. Overall this was an encouraging growth from 2011 and part of the step by step journey for Oasis in advancing the TraffickFree movement. Recently, in LA County, we were able to crowd-source through our TFC’s, and had the privileged of supporting law enforcement agencies and key support services, as they ran a sting operation which contacted minors and adults being forced to work on the streets of LA. We would also appreciate prayer for the community of downtown LA. Recently, over 4000 people living on the streets of LA have been highlighted as victims of a persistent strain of TB.

Strengthening Oasis USA has also meant that we can continue to support the global fight against human trafficking and helping the vulnerable, which Linsey leads by placing key people within the global Oasis network. It also allows us to access grants and funds for the global work. Our partnership with Oasis India is one example where we are able to support the team as they rescue girls who are enslaved in the city brothels. See the Oasis USA Give Freedom campaign, http://oasisusa.org/give-freedom for more information.

Oasis USA is currently directly linked with people in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Kyrgyzstan.

Please pray for continued growth and favor, plus additional resources that would enable us to increase our capacity to help those who are ostracized and enslaved locally and around the world. You can still join Oasis USA in our 40 days of prayer and fasting for lent, see http://oasisusa.org/40-days-for-freedom
Pray also for the vulnerable to have a supportive encouraging community around them that would help them back into a stable life. Being a friend, someone who speaks love, life and encouragement is a key ingredient in people become reintegrated back into community.

The green card application rolls on and we have not heard anything positive since the last submission. However, Oasis and the lawyer will reapply with a new application later this month.

This summer is going to be a very full season for us, irrespective of what happens with the application.
One, we have to move from our current subsidized accommodation. Our stay was time bound and had been extended for a couple of years, but will be finally completed this summer. Therefore, if we stay in the USA we will need to find inexpensive accommodation - a dichotomy within LA. However, God has always been active and creative in our moves and our past hunts for accommodation and we hope for that again.
Two, if we do need to leave the USA in the summer, then it will be a major transcontinental move rather than just within the city and we will need to find accommodation within the UK.
Three, this summer Kevin will need to visit the UK. It’s been three years since he has visited his parents. This is due to a host of reasons, primarily the green card application and the complexity of the Oasis transition.
Four, Joshua will, hopefully, be transitioning onto university and lastly, we will be celebrating a major anniversary this summer. It’s going to be a busy season.

Pray for the following would be appreciated:
  • Both Linsey’s and Kevin’s parents. They are battling significant health issues.
  • Ben, Josh & Charys as they journey through the challenges of studies, jobs, schools and being third culture kids.
  • Peace and fruit for them as they chase their dreams
  • Kevin and Linsey as they assist Oasis in the fight against human trafficking in the US and assist the victims in their quest to find freedom, support, love and peace.
  • Local people in the various communities we are partnering with, who are fighting human trafficking in their own local area in their own local way. Especially the group in Los Angeles at the moment
  • Wisdom as we help the church and communities of faith engage with the needs around them.
  • Success for the green card applications.
  • Our whole family as we face the challenges and milestones of the summer. Pray that we would journey through it well and with hope and joy.
